Diverse plants offer a multitude of benefits, including the provision of fresh air, clean water, abundant food, stable climate, and a comfortable environment for humans. Plant diversity can be regarded as a natural solution for forest restoration, carbon capture and climate change mitigation. However, the ever-increasing demands for food, energy, and other natural resources are exerting immense pressure on global tree diversity, posing a threat to soil functions (Guo et al., 2022).
