1 INTRODUCTION Gastric cancer (GC) is a widespread type of cancer and ranks as the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. More than 70% of new cases and deaths from GC occur in developing countries. Two main classification systems are commonly used to categorize GC. The first one divides it based on where the tumour is located, classifying it as cardia or non-cardia.
