Thousands of Welsh people who lost their winter fuel payment are signing a petition, urging the UK government to reconsider its decision. Age UK, a charity supporting older people, launched the petition after the cancelling of universal fuel payments, has already gathered over 650,000 signatures, including 28,500 from Wales.

Refugees in Cardiff now have a platform to share their struggles and hopes, thanks to a new podcast series launched last week. The podcast is run by Oasis Cardiff, a Splott-based organisation providing support for asylum seekers and refugees, sharing the personal stories of these refugees. “It’s not just about telling stories,” said Kirran Lochhead Strang, one of the operators of the podcast.

An innovative project is asking people in Cardiff to choose items that tell the story of Splott. The Pocket Museum project wants to curate items and stories that tell the history of the area and to make them accessible to people who don’t normally go to museums. “We call it Pocket Museum because it can fit in a pocket. According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of babies born in England and Wales is now the lowest since 1977. The total fertility rate in England and Wales dropped to 1.44 children per woman, its lowest value since records began in 1938. In Wales, Cardiff had the lowest fertility rate (1.16). In more recent trends, there has been an overall decline in births in England and Wales since 2012. Not only in the UK but also many countries are facing a decline in fertility.
