1 IntroductionIncineration is widely used in handling municipal solid waste (MSW) in places where land scarcity is a problem. Typically, the process results in a volume reduction of 95%–96% and a mass reduction of 80%–85%, depending on the degree of recovery and composition of materials, such as metals from the ashes for the recycling process (Ramboll, 2006; Tammaro et al., 2015).
