ABSTRACTAmerican Chinatown has been a complex and paradoxical economic, social, and cultural space. In the writings of Frank Chin, Fae Myenne Ng, and Charles Yu, Chinatown is depicted as a bounded community that elicits either a desire for escape or a nostalgic longing for return among Chinese Americans. However, since its establishment, the geographical boundaries of Chinatown have gradually dissolved, evolving from an ethnic enclave to an ethnoburb and eventually to a cultural community.
