PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The suspect in a deadly shooting from the beginning of June has been captured in the nation's second-largest city. Kyle McNutt was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection to the June 3 shooting in Pennfield Township. A warrant for his arrest was issued out of Calhoun County, including charges of Open Murder, Felony Firearm, and two counts of Child Abuse in the First Degree. McNutt is a suspect in the death of 34-year-old Ofellia Baldwin.

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — The woman who died after being found floating miles from shore earlier this week likely went for a swim and wasn't able to make it back to land. The 67-year-old from New Mexico was staying alone at a relative's lakeshore property before she went missing, according to the South Haven Police Department. Detectives believe the woman took a swim and never got out of the water. She was found about 5 miles from shore around 6 p.m. on Monday, June 23 by a boater.

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. — Work to reduce the risk of a power outage will require Consumers Energy to turn off electricity for nearly 4,000 customers just before the 4th of July. Consumers Energy is planning to interrupt electricity to an area around Cedar Springs starting July 1 at 11 p.m. for maintenance work on a substation. The upgrades are expected to take up to 5 hours to complete. Homes and businesses which will be impacted should have received a notice from Consumers Energy about the outage.

WASHINGTON — The effort to gain greater legal status for a group of Native Americans in the heart of West Michigan has a renewed attempt in Washington. U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin reintroduced a bill that would federally recognize the Grand River Bands of Ottawa Indians as a sovereign nation. The Tribe has sought the recognition for decades, with a bill to do so introduced in the past two sessions of Congress. Both attempts failed to gain enough support to pass.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Public Museum had to close suddenly Wednesday morning after old and potentially unstable drugs were found inside an exhibit. Members of the musuem's collections team identified several pharmaceutical drugs in the Rudell Drug Store display within the Streets of Old Grand Rapids exhibit. The drugs tend to become unstable over time, per a museum spokesperson. The pharmaceuticals were noted during a curatorial review of the exhibit.
