The first day of scrimmages at training camp finished up on a gorgeous Monday evening in Albany. The Philadelphia Waterdogs defeated the Carolina Chaos 13-8, the Boston Cannons beat the California Redwoods 10-5, the Utah Archers toppled the New York Atlas 10-7 and then the Maryland Whipsnakes handled business against the Denver Outlaws, winning 8-4. There was plenty to gather and glean from Monday’s action and the first four days of camp.

The ‘Hoos have now made their second consecutive tournament after the program had only been selected once before since joining the NCAA in 1982. The Cavaliers are 37-17 (14-10 in the ACC) this season after finishing seventh in the conference in the regular season and then losing to Clemson in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

After getting a ceiling-raiser in the frontcourt with Johann Gruenloh, Ryan Odom and staff have now added San Francisco guard Malik Thomas as a scoring guard who resets the backcourt’s potential for 2025-26. Thomas will come to Charlottesville for his graduate season after receiving a waiver for an additional year of eligibility since he played just 16 minutes his freshman year.
