An RV innovator christens its next generation. This past summer, the Indiana factory making Grand Design’s newest vehicle was itself a work in progress. Starting at a bracing early hour, the plant’s largely Amish crew moved the first Lineage Series M rigs through an assembly line so new that its workstations were coming on line in sequence as individual units reached new production stages. The workers were essentially turning the factory on piece by piece, as needed.

Photographer Brian Finke captured a summer weekend, and we talked to locals who keep the place flowing. The Captain Captain Kaitlynn McHenry—the first woman to helm the Maid of the Mist in the 178-year history of the sightseeing boat company—grew up outside Rochester, NY. In high school, she worked as a deckhand on Erie Canal.
