    Local News School’s out for summer Students at Center Avenue Community School’s end of the year picnic were able to celebrate the competition of another year of hard work and accomplishments in the classroom. Students enjoyed the outdoors and gymnasium with teachers and faculty, playing catch and games like tug-of-war on Friday, June 6, the school’s last day of classes.

    A Moniteau High School senior received a scholarship to support his education in electromechanical technology at the New Castle School of Trades. Kolton Stroup was presented with an industrial maintenance scholarship by Ellwood, a $10,000 award, Friday, May 30. According to a news release from Ellwood, the scholarship is part of the company’s efforts to build strong connections with local schools and support students who go on to be skilled trades professionals.

    Local News BUTLER TWP — In the sweltering heat of a gymnasium packed at least to capacity, Butler’s class of 2025 members marked the end of their time at their hometown school. “13 years, you’ve been waiting for this, you finally made it,” John Wyllie, assistant to the superintendent, said to the students as they entered commencement. Despite the weather trying its best to get in the way of commencement, Butler’s 2025 Golden Tornado united to celebrate the life milestone they achieved.

    Local News Silly-string celebration Two Mars Area Primary Center classrooms had a rare opportunity May 30: covering their building principal in silly string. The students were rewarded for raising the most in the school’s 2025 American Heart Association fundraiser, from Feb. 1 to 28. In total, the school of kindergartners and first graders raised $12,424.
