With the Mariners badly in need of a series win, a reborn Ty France and the Twins stand in their way. After taking one on the chin from a non-contender, the Seattle Mariners badly need a series win over the weekend to right their ship. They'll have to work for it, as rolling into town is a Minnesota Twins team that has won 17 out of its last 22 games. Plus, you just know their first baseman is going to have a little extra fire in him throughout the weekend.

Yet another series loss has the Mariners on the brink of falling out of first place in the AL West. A fun fact about this week's three-game set between the Washington Nationals and Seattle Mariners is that the winning team scored exactly nine runs in all three games. Of course, this fact is a lot less "fun" for Mariners fans.

For reasons that are hard to decipher, the Boston Red Sox are committed to the bit of testing the patience of one of Major League Baseball's most loyal fanbases. Through the first two months of the 2025 season, the Red Sox have struggled to launch and are now in a tailspin. They have lost five games in a row and 17 out of 27 since April 29. They are a season-high four games under .500 at 27-31. Unsurprisingly, the club's odds of returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2021 are in a rut.

The Rockies have a third baseman who would fit well in Seattle. As the Seattle Mariners couldn't even sustain a 10-game lead in the AL West last year, it's doubtful that anyone is feeling confident in the 0.5-game lead they have now. Luckily for the team, however, the trade deadline is coming up and Ryan McMahon could be available. We say "could be" because the only predictable thing about the Colorado Rockies is that they're going to keep losing games.

The Mariners have the excuse and the resources to aim big, but it won't be that simple. At least in theory, the Seattle Mariners check all the boxes for a team that should throw its weight around on the trade market ahead of MLB's July 31 deadline. They're in first place in the AL West, giving them yet another good shot at finally ending a World Series drought that traces back to the franchise's inception in 1977.
