The 2025 North Carolina High School girls soccer playoffs were scheduled to begin May 12. But Mother Nature had other ideas. Heavy rain and thunderstorms have forced numerous games to be postponed. Mountain Heritage at Swain County moved game time up an hour to 5 p.m., while Avery County at Elkin is postponed but hasn't been rescheduled.

Hendersonville sophomore quarterback JaRon Ward has been around the Bearcats football program since before he could walk. Ward aims to improve his leadership skills to guide the team to a conference championship and playoff success. As a sophomore, Ward was one of Western North Carolina's top quarterbacks, throwing for 972 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games.

WAYNESVILLE — Tuscola baseball wanted to schedule challenging nonconference games ahead of the 2025 season despite generating a few losses. The Mountaineers scheduled tough competition during the nonconference portion of the season so they would be prepared for what they would face in the playoffs. "Playing tough teams out of conference got us better," pitcher and infielder Kolt Nelson said. "So now, as we're going on into these deep rounds, round one, round two, moving on to round three.
