Mark Pope isn’t going to downplay his expectations for Jasper Johnson‘s first season in Lexington. Johnson is Pope’s biggest high school recruiting win to date. Yes, Johnson is a homegrown product, born and raised in central Kentucky. But he could have easily gone to somewhere like North Carolina, where the coaching staff had prioritized him for years.

It was a shock to all of Big Blue Nation when Bluegrass native Travis Perry announced he was transferring out of his dream school after just one season. Perry, a product of Lyon County and lifelong Wildcat fan, played an important role off the bench during Mark Pope‘s first season coaching Kentucky men’s basketball. Injuries to players ahead of Perry in the rotation carved out an unexpected role, particularly during the middle of the SEC season.

On Monday, a couple of former Kentucky Wildcats played a massive part in helping their teams take 3-1 leads in the Conference Semifinals. We’ll start in the Big Apple, where Karl-Anthony Towns and the (3) New York Knicks used another second-half comeback (coupled with some terrible injury luck for the opposition) to take down the (1) Boston Celtics 121-113.

When judging players as potential NBA prospects, a long wingspan is often required to make it in the league. That’s even more true with elite defenders, rim protectors, highlight reel dunkers, etc. But when it comes to excellent outside shooting, it’s not nearly as much of a necessity. And that’s great news for Brea.
