Hijackers now target delivery vehicles

The Tracker’s latest Vehicle Crime Index (VCI) for the fourth quarter of 2024 indicate business vehicle hijacking become increasingly targeted by vehicle theft crime syndicates. Tracker’s VCI aggregates information from the company’s over 1.1 million subscriptions. The security firm’s vehicle crime statistics for July to December 2024 highlight motor vehicle hijackings comprise 56% of all vehicle crime incidents in South Africa, while theft accounts for 44%.
Chacklas pool team crowned VTOPA champions

Chacklas pool team thrashed Stillwaters Pool squad 4-1 in the final match to champion the Vosloorus Tavern Owners Pool Association (VTOPA) tournament on home turf held at Chacklas Tavern on November 3. Five teams competed in the tournament. The VTOPA tournament commenced with Chacklas defeating Mdu’s Pool Tavern squad 4-3 to advance to the semi-finals. In another encounter, Stillwaters humiliated Mtobho 4-0 to advance to the semi-finals.

On October 12, the EMPD Intervention Unit and CLU officers responded to a cash-in-transit in progress in the Kwa-Thema area. The EMPD officers received information about a cash-in-transit in progress at Vlakfontein Road in Kwa-Thema. On arrival, they found vehicles burning, and a lot of community members were busy looting the cash from the vehicles. The suspects could not be found. The EMPD urges the community to refrain from being caught, as they are also committing a crime by looting the money.

The firearms were described by the Katlehong SAPS’s Media spokesperson Constable Sive Mtwa, as two rifles, one shotgun, one pistol and 1 200 rounds of lie ammunition. The city has already covered 78% of the meters in Edenvale and Nigel, and later this month the focus moves to Benoni, Springs and surrounding areas. “The current electricity meters will automatically cease to work by 24 November 2024 owing to a date rollover problem, unless each meter is updated.
