Work is officially underway to transform Cleveland’s former National ACME Plant into a site primed for economic growth and new jobs. The $11 million cleanup will take about six months to complete, Cuyahoga Land Bank President President Ricardo Leon said. "The landbank will work with our folks who are boots on the ground to remove over 27 thousand tons — 27 thousand tons — of asbestos-laden, illegally-dumped debris and trash, both in the buildings and outside of the buildings," he said.

Expanded polystyrene foam, typically used in everything from packaging for new TVs to carry-out food containers, but Jeffrey McNaught, owner of Edgewater Surf in Rocky River, found an eco-friendly use for something that usually ends up in landfills. McNaught opened his surf shop in September, where he collects donated foam at a hut outside the store.

Rick and Diana King first noticed something wasn’t right with their middle son Benjamin more than 20 years ago. "Benjamin was just an infant," Rick King said. "I kind of knew what to look for a little bit as far as him making his marks, you know, the benchmarks, and he wasn't making them."
