AbstractCuprous copper (Cu(I)) is an essential cofactor for enzymes supporting many cellular functions including mitochondrial respiration and suppression of oxidative stress. Neurons are particularly dependent on these pathways, with multiple neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimers disease (AD), Parkinsons disease, associated with their dysfunction.
