AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - On its fifth anniversary, local nonprofit Umoja Village held a drop in on Thursday. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the resource center and connect with the Umoja Village board. Founded in 2020, Umoja Village is a South Carolina-based charity organization with a goal of unifying underserved populations and bringing about positive and sustainable change for the Black community. And fittingly, the organization was founded on Juneteenth.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Dr. Paulette P Harris Literacy Center kicks off its 3rd annual free camp this week. The camp is two weeks long and is in partnership with the Jessye Norman School of the Arts. They have over 30 students, aged 6 to 13 years old, who are preparing for a performance of the book, The Alphabet Thief, on June 27.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A free program offering boys in our area different life skills is taking place this summer, and there is still time for you to join. The mPact Co-Op Association is hosting the 6 Boys Program for young men in 8th through 10th grade on Tuesdays in June and July. Organizers say the program strengthens boys through six essential pillars of manhood: discipline, wisdom, courage, brotherhood, purpose and skill.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Besides homes and businesses, schools in our area also took a big hit when Hurricane Helene tore through the CSRA almost nine months ago. Open Door PreSchool is the only not-for-profit, parent-directed school in the area and has been around for more than 60 years. During Hurricane Helene, the preschool’s playground was significantly damaged, and they are now fundraising to fix what insurance didn’t cover.
