One audience member, James Benson, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) ‘What a great night! Who knew impressions could combine with the piano? For the guy behind me it was the first time he’d seen a pianist live.’ The evening was introduced by lowestoft-born Classic FM presenter Zeb Soanes, who explained the purpose of commemorating Benjamin Britten as a boy, when his talent was first recognised, is to inspire future generations of Lowestoft children to achieve their ambitions.

Lady Penn, died on November 20th, aged 97. Prue had a wonderful capacity for making new friends of all ages, even in her ninth decade. I was fortunate to be one of them. Prue led a remarkable life: a close friend of The Queen and Princess Margaret and former Lady-in-waiting to the Queen Mother — she was at the heart of Palace life for over 70 years and had a phone conversation with Queen Elizabeth II just 10 days before she died.

On Friday night the Wigmore Hall in London was filled for a spectacular gala to fundraise for Lowestoft’s Britten as a Boy Statue. It was a fitting location, where numerous of Britten’s works received their premieres. The evening was introduced by Zeb Soanes, who is also from Britten’s home town of Lowestoft. He explained how the idea for the statue came about during a walk along the beach during lockdown, past Britten’s childhood house.
