    Maine lawmakers are stepping in to try to help long-term care providers stay afloat, and recruit and retain caregivers with emergency legislation that comes as another nursing home closes its doors. Sen. Nicole Grohoski (D) proposed a bill on April 8 that would mandate the state’s Department of Health and Human Services “recalculate [reimbursement] rates to reflect a cost-of-living adjustment.” DHHS would have to make the adjustment retroactive to Jan. 1.

    The District of Columbia has asked a federal judge to alter his December 2024 decision that found the city to have violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by not enabling nursing home residents capable of transitioning into the community to receive in-home care. He has opened the door a crack for a reversal, though attorneys representing the residents said on Wednesday that they believe a repeal is highly unlikely.
