Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane has said all parents of Grade 1s and Grade 8s with complete applications will start receiving offers of placements next week Monday (4 September). The Gauteng Department of Education confirmed that it received a total of 757 075 Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications. But said only 270 950 of these applications are completed and applicants will get placement letters next week.

The 13th witness in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Timothy Mathebula revealed that Kelly Khumalo’s mother Gladness picked up a hat allegedly worn by one of the intruders and she showed it to the police. The contamination of the crime scene dominated Mathebula’s cross-examination as he pieced together how they handled the crime scene where Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed.
