Perfectly Fine Dining"I hope they still serve jalapeno poppers," my friend Eve says as we start our drive to Longueuil, a suburb on Montreal's South Shore. It's a frigid night in December, and despite the literal hundreds of more interesting dinner options closer to home, Eve and I are on our way to Jack Astor's Bar and Grill. Neither of us has been to a sit-down chain restaurant in over a decade.

The first week of the Trump presidency has already proven to be a disaster for trans and non-binary Americans. Earlier this year, when I reported on what it’s like to be a young trans person in Canada, I got the chance to do something few newsrooms take the time to do: actually speak with trans kids about their lives. The bills, policies and laws targeting trans youth that are being introduced across Canada and the U.S. have been covered extensively in recent years. But that reporting doesn’t always include the perspectives of the youth and their families who are affected by these repressive rules.

Go intern for my fave print magazine :)

Maisonneuve is seeking interns for our spring and summer issues. Interns are trained in formal fact checking techniques, and primarily assist with fact checking our long features for each issue. 🧵
