    The Mountain View City Council has approved raising the income limit for the Mountain View Whisman School District’s employee housing project, in an attempt to increase the number of teachers and other school staff moving into the building. The City Council voted unanimously at a Tuesday, June 24, meeting to raise the income eligibility cap for the moderate income units within subsidized housing project from 120% of the area median income to 150%.

    The Mountain View Whisman School District agreed last month to pay $1.6 million to settle a lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct by a former Crittenden Middle School teacher and administrator who worked at the school in the 1970s. The school board agreed in closed session at a May 29 meeting to settle sexual molestation claims brought by two former students, board President Bill Lambert announced.

    For the first time, the highest paid teachers in the Mountain View Los Altos High School District will make a base salary of more than $200,000 annually, under the terms of a union agreement that the school board approved this month. MVLA’s school board voted unanimously at a June 4 meeting to give teachers a 4% raise, retroactive to the start of the calendar year. At a meeting last night, the board voted 4-0 to approve matching raises for other district staff.

    A group of community members announced last night that they are attempting to recall Devon Conley, a member of Mountain View Whisman’s school board. The recall is still in the early stages, with the proponents serving Conley with their formal “notice of intention” to recall her. There are multiple steps required to get a recall on the ballot, including ultimately getting at least 20% of the registered voters within the school district’s jurisdiction to sign a recall petition.

    With schools out for summer break and the weather heating up, Mountain View’s public pools will soon be open for weekday recreation swim. The newly opened Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center, as well as Eagle Park Pool, will open for weekday rec swim starting on Monday, June 16. Rengstorff pool is already open for rec swim on weekends, which will continue. Weekday rec swim hours will run from 2:30-5 p.m. at Rengstorff and 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Eagle.
