Vertical posts have begun to be installed along the El Camino Real in Mountain View, separating the newly installed bike lanes from vehicle traffic. The California Department of Transportation is in the midst of a long-awaited project to add bike lanes along El Camino Real throughout Mountain View, Los Altos and Palo Alto. In recent weeks, work crews have begun to install the flexible lane separators, starting on the northbound side where the lanes begin near the Sunnyvale border.

The number of students in Mountain View’s public schools increased slightly this school year, even as the state and county continue to see post-COVID enrollment declines. The Mountain View Whisman School District and the Mountain View Los Altos High School District each saw a 1.2% increase in student enrollment this fall, compared to the 2023-24 school year. In comparison, California saw a 0.54% decrease in student enrollment and Santa Clara County schools overall saw a 1.1% drop.

Following criticism in recent months from some community members of its ethnic studies course, the Mountain View Los Altos High School District has now conducted a student survey to get a more comprehensive perspective on the topic. The survey asked students a series of questions about their experiences taking ethnic studies, and then asked them the same questions about their freshman year English course. The idea was to use the English results as a baseline for comparison.
