The South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Organised Crime, Anti-Gang Unit is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 38-year-old Chinese national who was kidnapped this morning in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. It is alleged that the victim was traveling to his business in Kariega after he returned from the fresh produce market. The police say, as he was approaching the M17 turnoff when shots were fired, forcing him to stop his vehicle.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile will deliver the keynote address during the commemoration of the Langa Massacre, which will be held at Kariega in the Eastern Cape today. The Nelson Mandela Municipality has set aside R5 million to host the event. The Langa Memorial site is receiving a major facelift where the Deputy President, Ministers and affected families will also take part in a wreath-laying ceremony.

Condolences are being shared following the passing of African National Congress (ANC) stalwart Dennis Neer on Friday at the age of 76, after a prolonged illness. Neer, a former Eastern Cape MEC for Community Safety, was deeply involved in the ANC’s underground activities during the struggle for democracy. He also served as the provincial secretary of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).

A Gqeberha-based NGO has handed over state-of-the-art sports facilities worth R300 000 to Loyiso High School in Zwide township, Eastern Cape. The facilities for Netball and a tennis court will be used after school for learners to train as well as to fight social ills. The project aimed to promote sports at schools and spread it across schools in the Nelson Mandela Bay Region. During the handover, learners were given soccer balls, netball kits, tennis rackets, and balls.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in the Eastern Cape says it is expecting to permanently restore electricity supply in areas affected by power outages in the Metro. Residents of the Metro have been experiencing sporadic power outages following the disruptive rain that hit the Metro last week. Ageing infrastructure has been cited as the root cause of the problem.
