AFSCME
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) stands as the largest union for public workers across the United States. It advocates for 1.3 million public sector employees and retirees, which includes professionals such as healthcare workers, corrections staff, sanitation personnel, police, firefighters, and childcare providers. Established in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1932, AFSCME is affiliated with the AFL–CIO, one of the two primary labor organizations in the country. Since its inception, AFSCME has had four different presidents.
