APWU
The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) represents over 200,000 employees and retirees of the USPS, as well as nearly 2,000 workers from the private mail sector. For more than 40 years, APWU has been dedicated to advocating for the rights and dignity of the workers it represents, striving for fair wages, benefits, and safe working environments. As a proud affiliate of the AFL-CIO, the APWU is committed to promoting social and economic justice for all families in the workforce. Members of the APWU are organized into divisions based on their job roles, including Clerk, Maintenance, Motor Vehicle Service (MVS), and Support Services. Our union operates democratically, with members who pay dues and are part of more than 900 local and state unions, as well as retiree chapters across all states and territories. Union officers are elected directly by the members. The local and state affiliates of the union function independently but depend on the national union to advocate for them during contract negotiations and in addressing national grievances. The union is responsible for negotiating a national Collective Bargaining Agreement and representing our members' interests at the legislative level. Additionally, the APWU offers various Retiree and Auxiliary chapters, allowing former postal workers and their families to stay engaged in union activities. The APWU's headquarters is located in Washington, DC.
