    COMAC and China Eastern Airlines on Wednesday celebrated the second anniversary of commercial operations of the C919, the country’s most advanced narrow-body commercial jet. With a current fleet of 19 aircraft, the C919 is still a celebrity at Chinese airports, but is expected to become more common in the coming years. The Shanghai-based state-owned manufacturer plans to complete 50 aircraft this year and ramp up production over the next decade.

    Atlanta-based startup Hermeus has completed the first flight of the Quarterhorse Mk 1, a remotely piloted prototype that is part of the hypersonic aircraft program. The aircraft, registration N60304, took off from the dry lake at Edwards AFB in California for a short flight. The company praised the speed with which the aircraft was built in just over a year and is equipped with a GE J85 turbojet, the same engine that powers the F-5 fighters and the T-38 Talon trainer of the USAF.

    Air Niugini, the flag carrier of Papua New Guinea, has ordered two more A220-100 jets from Airbus. The new order is in addition to a deal signed in 2023 for six of the same type. The carrier also has a leasing agreement for three larger-capacity A220-300s with Azorra. Air Niugini’s first A220-100 has just entered final assembly at its Mirabel facility in Canada, but Airbus did not say when it will be delivered.
