The Post Gazette started its journey in Alton in 1985, likely named after a newspaper from a town in America where its original owner resided. The publication quickly gained popularity among the residents of Alton due to its light-hearted writing style. In the 1990s, it became part of the Tindle family of newspapers. Currently, it is edited by Joyce Sharland-Brown, with Kelly Mitchell serving as the Advertising Manager.
