Indian manufacturer Vedanta has reported record aluminium production in the past year. For the financial year from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, Vedanta posted its aluminium production of 2,421 thousand tonnes compared to 2,370 thousand tonnes in FY2024. It was an annual increase of 2.11%, slightly lower than the growth rate of 3% the previous year.

Renewable electricity and recycling will be the primary driver of emissions reductions for aluminium, a study has revealed. A study by Eunomia, commissioned by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), highlighted aluminium’s role in industrial decarbonisation, comparing its emissions reduction pathways to steel, copper, container glass and PVC. The findings emphasise that combining renewable electricity and recycling will be the primary driver of emissions reductions for aluminium.

Alcoa has formulated a plan for the future of its San Ciprián, Spain aluminium complex. It has entered into a joint venture (JV) with Ignis Equity Holdings to support the smelter’s operations. Alcoa will own a 75% interest and continue as the managing operator and Ignis a 25% interest. Alcoa and Ignis contributed $81 (€75) million and $27 (€25) million, respectively, to form the JV and fund the operations.

The Australian Aluminium Council has backed a government plan which protects the country’s manufacturers from unfair trade practices. The organisation, which represents Australian bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminium smelting and downstream processing industries, said it welcomed its government’s Statement of Expectations for the Anti-Dumping Commission. It said the statement would play a critical role in protecting Australian manufacturers from unfair trade practices.
