When Doug Clinton moved his family to Nashville, Tenn., in 2018, he had big dreams that had nothing to do with country music. As the new CEO at Lifeway Credit Union, he dreamed of elevating the institution to new heights. His dreams were dashed though in 2019 when the credit union’s primary sponsor group, Lifeway Christian Resources, the publishing arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, closed its stores nationally. The company pared its workforce from 4,200 to about 650.

Jason McPhee takes a decidedly hands-on approach to strengthen the bond between Aggieland Credit Union and the people it serves. “Instead of handing out brochures and freebies, Jason creates experiences that connect with people,” says Rachel Bond, assistant vice president of community engagement and public relations at $970 million asset Greater Texas Federal Credit Union in Austin. Aggieland is a subsidiary of Greater Texas Federal.

Take care of people, and the numbers will fend for themselves. That sums up Bradley Dyer Jr’s approach to business development at $1.4 billion asset Credit Union of America in Wichita, Kan. While the Jamaican-born senior business development officer doesn’t enjoy the state’s chilly winters, he’s committed to serving the area’s dedicated teachers and health care professionals who make up much of the credit union’s membership. “The numbers are only one aspect of what we do,” Dyer says.
