My sister sends me a text: “Here’s something for you to write about!” This is a regular occurrence. It’s more regular than, for example, the sun rising, or setting, or the arrival of the post — that is to say, she does this several times a day, sometimes to my delight but often, I confess, to my frustration (and she knows this; it’s a show of true sisterly love that it doesn’t put her off).

It’s Atlas’ last week of school before his spring break next week, and honestly I think it couldn’t come soon enough — he’s started to complain, more and more, about going to school, and I think he just needs a break.

Hello! It’s been a while! Roman is now three months (and four days, but who’s counting?) old and though it does not feel like enough time has passed for me to come back to work… I also know I must come back to work. (FYI the podcast has been back for a while! Our timekeeping is slightly shoddy — we’re in the postpartum phase, okay?! — but episodes are dropping, if slightly sporadically.

I’ve been listening to Tate McRae’s Sports Car on repeat, having become particularly intrigued with her off the back of this article I read last week.

Two days from Roman’s three-month, er, birthday? Anniversary? I am posting the final guest money diary of my quasi maternity leave, meaning I’ll be back with my own money diaries from next week. Thank you all so much for bearing with me, and I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing a variety of voices! You may remember Sinead’s first guest post, here, and if you like her writing you can subscribe to her Substack here:I’m Sinéad, a teacher and mother of five living in Co Laois, Ireland.

This week, my friend – despite her being a very prolific author, something that would usually put me off a friendship due to sheer jealousy – Sophie White offered to write me a money diary, “so you can have another week to focus on your baby”. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I said yes, please! (Also very nosy, so any money diary offers are gratefully accepted.) So here we are.

(Potentially obvious) content warning: this post contains photographs of a graphic nature that won’t be for everyone. But, y’know, they might be for some. The miracle of birth! Or something. On December 20th of 2024, I had my second C-section. The first was an “emergency C-section” or, as I like to refer to it, a “surprise C-section”. “Emergency” feels too dramatic, when no one’s life was in immediate danger, there was no shouting, no rushing from one room to the next.

I’ve just finished Sarah J Maas’ Crescent City series, the latest in my foray into romantasy, a genre that is, FYI, in 2024, the subgenre — a hybrid of romance and fantasy, often involving faeries, werewolves, witches and assorted magical creatures, and always involving love and, frequently, steamy sex scenes — sold 30 million print copies, up 50 per cent on 20231.

When Anchor Baby reader Sarah saw that I was featuring guest money diaries, she reached out and offered to contribute her own! I’m really fascinated reading about people’s lives, and Sarah’s seems so lovely – croissants! Spanish sun! friends meeting for dinner just across the road! – not to mention how interesting it is to read about how differently they do things in other countries.

Kailey Stockburger is a friend I met through another friend (Hannah, whose money diary you can read here), but she’s also an incredible photographer, so when she offered to write me a money diary – complete with photos – from the week she and her husband spend exploring Yellowstone and Grand Teton, I was over the moon! Due to the number of photographs, this post will be too long for email, so you’ll need to click through to the site, or read on the Substack App – but it’s well worth it...
