An-Nahar (Arabic: النهار‎‎), which translates to "The Morning" or "The Day" in English, is a prominent daily newspaper in Arabic that is based in Lebanon. Journalist Charles Glass has noted that An-Nahar can be seen as the Lebanese counterpart to The New York Times. The newspaper first hit the stands on August 4, 1933, starting as a modest four-page publication. It began with a small team of just five individuals, including its founder, Gebran Tueni. The initial funding of the paper was 50 gold pieces collected from friends, and it had a limited circulation of only 500 copies. Gebran Tueni served as the chief editor until his passing in 1949. Following his death, the leadership continued in the family with his son, Ghassan Tueni, and later his grandson, also named Gebran Tueni, taking on editorial and publishing roles.
