Anti-Defamation League

Anti-Defamation League

Originally established as the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, this international Jewish nonprofit organization is based in the United States and focuses on civil rights law. It was created in late September 1913 by the Independent Order of B'nai B'rith, a Jewish service group, in response to the controversial murder conviction of Leo Frank. The ADL later separated from B'nai B'rith and became an independent nonprofit organization under the 501(c)(3) designation. In July 2015, Jonathan Greenblatt, who has a background in technology and previously worked in the Obama administration, took over as the national director, succeeding Abraham Foxman, who held the position since 1987.
