ANTIGRAVITY Magazine
ANTIGRAVITY is a complimentary monthly magazine printed in ledger-sized, black and white newsprint and circulated across the New Orleans metropolitan area. Our focus is on creating original content that highlights both emerging local talent and visiting artists. With a touch of irreverence, we cover a wide range of topics, including pet care, anarchist theory, advice columns, interviews, reviews, opinion pieces, comics, and photography. Celebrating its 10th anniversary with over 100 issues published, ANTIGRAVITY hits the stands during the first week of each month. You can also find us online at

Welcome to the 21st anniversary of ANTIGRAVITY Magazine. Time is arbitrary and existence is but a dream, but it’s still nice to mark these occasions and meditate on how far this little rag has come since the days of Leo McGovern pushing a wagon full of copies around the French Quarter, way back in the summer of 2004. I’m taking this year’s milestone to answer a question I get a lot, which is some form of: We’d like to start our own magazine. What advice do you have?

Hello! It’s June, and it’s beginning to feel a little tropical outside. Astronomically, summer begins in the Northern Hemisphere in June, when the Earth’s axis is pointed directly at the sun. Otherwise known as the summer solstice, this occurs for us on the 20th, and it’s the longest day of the year. This month also provides us with some epic skygazing, as June hosts an exquisite moon! The Strawberry Moon will grace the sky on June 11, reaching its peak radiance at 2:46 a.m. (CDT).

Danielle Nelson is a practicing therapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who focuses on sexual health and wellness, trauma and recovery, self-esteem and resilience building, life transitions, and general mental health concerns. Though Danielle is a trained professional, this column is not a substitute for advice or care provided by your licensed medical or health care professional. No one ever asks me about New Orleans in a clinical setting, and that’s probably a good thing.
