The latest AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index was released this morning, marking the seventh consecutive month of contraction with a score of 47.2 in May, up from 43.2 in April. Any score below 50.0 signals a decline. The report indicates that inquiries into new work had increased for the first time since January — potentially a reflection of a "modest degree of stabilization" in the economy recently. The value of signed design contracts, however, continued its declining trend last month.
