RSF says protests in Argentina “are becoming the scene of widespread repression,” with reporters being targeted by armed forces. The organization claims that public security actors are “deliberately obstructing journalist coverage” through the use of violence.

Argentina’s Ministry of Justice announced on Wednesday that it would be taking over and repurposing a major building within the Navy Mechanics School (ESMA) memory site. ESMA was a clandestine detention center during the dictatorship which governed Argentina from 1976 and 1983. Approximately 5,000 people are estimated to have spent time in ESMA during these years; many were tortured and murdered.

Buenos Aires, Argentina — La Libertad Avanza, the libertarian political party of firebrand President Javier Milei, won big in legislative elections in Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, on Sunday. Milei hopes to ride his party’s success into midterm elections this October. Half of the city’s 60 legislative seats were being contested, and La Libertad Avanza won 11 of them, including Manuel Adorni, President Milei’s spokesman, receiving 30.13% of the vote.
