Baguete Diário
B Baguete Diário was established in 1997, initially to help journalist Gilnei Marques rise early in the morning. At that time, Marques worked only in the afternoons and would wake up early to select the most significant news stories in Politics, Economy, World events, and Sports from the first Brazilian news websites. He would send out the selected news at 7:00 AM, fresh and timely like warm bread from a bakery. The recipients were subscribers of a service provided by an access provider in Porto Alegre. Soon, more people showed interest, leading to a daily email distribution that grew to 75,000. What started as a morning hobby for Marques began to turn profitable in 1998 when a client from Rio Grande do Sul, Maxwell, subscribed to a specialized newsletter that featured market news along with her own updates. This development opened a new avenue for the company’s growth at that time. As the century neared its end, Brazil experienced an internet boom with significant investments in launching new portals. It was during this period that Baguete shifted its focus to supplying content for the rapidly emerging websites. The free news clipping service became a commercial offering, attracting 60 customers across 17 states in Brazil. However, the influx of investor money quickly dried up as the market underwent consolidation, resulting in many of Baguete's clients being acquired or going out of business. This prompted another transformation for Baguete, which began providing content to a wider range of company portals, addressing their need for engaging material for their audiences.
