    WHAT was once thought to be the final Bluesfest turned into a triumphant celebration over the Easter long weekend, as massive crowds rallied in support of the iconic music festival. With more than 109,000 attendances across four days, this year’s Bluesfest marked the highest turnout for any Australian festival since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Festival director Peter Noble said it was one of the largest crowds in the event’s history.

    ANZAC Day events will be held across the Byron Shire next Friday April 25, with services planned at Byron Bay, Bangalow, Brunswick Heads, Mullumbimby and Clunes. Byron Bay RSL Sub-Branch will hold a dawn service at the Memorial Gates at Byron Bay Recreation Grounds from 5.30am to 6am. It will be followed by breakfast at Byron Bay Services Club before the march from Apex Park back to the Memorial Gates at 10.30am. The service there will begin at 10.50am.

The organisation’s president Nadia de Souza Pietramale said the team of passionate bush regenerators has been working at the site since 2018. “At that time, it was overgrown with green cestrum and had many different weeds,” she said. “We’re just getting on top of it and entering new areas. We have removed 2,000 kilograms of purple taro because it’s very strong there.
