BALLARAT’s Kilderkin Distillery has been awarded three medals at this year’s London Spirits Competition. The distillery won a gold medal for its Larrikin’s Grin Old Tom Gin and silver medals for both its Larrikin Raspberry Drop Gin and its Goldfields Single Malt Whisky in the international competition. This is the third consecutive year Kilderkin’s gins have been recognised at the competition, although it is the first time the single malt whisky has earned an international medal.

MOORABOOL Shire Council staff are celebrating Volunteer Week later this month and they are inviting the community to join them. National Volunteer Week runs from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 May and highlights the role of volunteers within communities. A free barbecue lunch with scones from the Country Women’s Association and live music from BaccBeat Jazz Band will be held on Friday 23 May from 11.30am to 1pm. It will take place at the Bacchus Marsh Green.

THE annual Mother’s Day service at the Garden of the Grieving Mother, adjacent to the Arch of Victory, will be held this Sunday 11 May at 11am. Arch of Victory/Avenue of Honour committee president Garry Snowden encouraged the community to reflect on the experiences of mothers and families during conflict.

COMMUNITY members are invited to celebrate fifty years of the Woady Yaloak Kindergarten next week. The Scarsdale kindergarten is managed by the Eureka Community Kindergarten Association and the celebrations will take place on Tuesday 13 May from 3.30pm to 5pm. There will be a coffee van, historic photographs, and cupcakes, and a time capsule buried in 2010 will be opened at 4pm.
