It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 8 years since I first played and reviewed Colt Express. This decade-old game of action programming a train heist has been delighting gamers with its 3D train and chaotic gameplay for over a decade. But recently, there has been a quality of life upgrade for this rootin’ tootin’ game. The Colt Express Big Box is a re-release of Colt Express, complete with a new character and 2 expansions. When it comes to game designers, you’d be hard pressed to find one with a bigger catalog of games than Dr. Reiner Knizia. I think his offering eclipses 700 games by now, with many award-winning titles in that group. While most of his games are not going to be thematic experiences, they are usually filled with clever and balanced mechanics. It’s with that in mind that we are going to take a look at Penguin Party.

Recently, I’ve been engrossed in the Hoplomachus: Victorum solo game from Chip Theory Games. I reviewed it a few weeks ago, which you can read here, but the short of it is, I loved it, and it’s spent a lot of time on my tabletop since it arrived. Along with a copy of the game, Chip Theory Games sent over a copy of the Pandora’s Ruin expansion. I decided to talk about this one separately as it introduces some significant changes to the core game. So let’s get right into what makes it tick.

Regular readers of the site probably know that I’m a bit of a cyberpunk addict. You throw this theme on a game and I’m happy to try it out. After spending over 100+ hours on the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, I still can’t get enough time in Night City. That’s probably why the Cyberpunk Red: Combat Zone was one of my favorite board games from 2023. It’s great production values and its silky smooth gameplay has caused me to dive all in on this skirmish game. But what’s that you say?
