To be part of this ParticipACTION Community Challenge, today Lethbridge Family Services held an Interpretive Nature Hike in Pincher Creek with staff and newcomers. Najib Mangal, Manager, Community Connections, LFS says the experience is designed to help newcomers to Canada not only explore the outdoors but feel a true sense of connection to their new home.

    Today marks the 81st Anniversary of D-Day. June 6th, 1944, allied forces stormed five beaches off the coast of Nazi-occupied France. The invasion used the largest-ever armada of ships, troops, planes and vehicles to breach Hitler’s defenses in western Europe. 44 hundred soldiers were killed on D-Day itself. In the ensuing Battle of Normandy, 73 thousand allied forces were killed and 153 thousand wounded. Glenn Miller with the Lethbridge Military Museum reminds us, peace comes at a price….

    Green Acres Foundation celebrated the Senior’s Week, as each year, the first week of June is dedicated to celebrating one of Alberta’s greatest treasures – our senior citizens. With soup, BBQ and music seniors from its nine communities gathered for a fun day. During the party a friendly soup competition in which the winning soup will be featured on their Fall/Winter menu was also held.
