Memorial Event To Pay Tribute To Lethbridge Disc Golfer

The Lethbridge Disc Golf community has sadly lost a special player. Scott Jardine was instrumental in helping keep the sport of disc golf running in our city. His sister Lisa Nuell posted on Facebook that her brother’s heart failed at the tender age of 51. The Lethbridge Disc Golf Association is hosting a Memorial Round for Scott event at Nicholas Sheran Park on October 22nd at 1pm to honour him. Rebecca Johnson knew Jardine and says he will be sorely missed.
Alberta Government Announces $11 Million For International Nurses

More money will be going to bring in more qualified nurses to Alberta. The province announced that $11 million will go toward nurse bridging programs to help train internationally educated nurses. Advanced Education Minister Rajan Sawhney was at the University of Lethbridge to unveil the news and says these nurses will now have access to an additional 1,221 spaces at post-secondary institutions so they can complete the programs they need for certification in Alberta.
Brent Seabrook To Be Inducted Into 'Canes Wall Of Honour

Former Lethbridge Hurricanes player and three-time Stanley Cup champion Brent Seabrook is set to become the newest inductee into the Hurricanes Wall of Honour in January at the Enmax Centre. He played four seasons with the ‘Canes from 2001-2005. He will become the 11th former player with the team to receive the distinction. Fire Engulfs Lethbridge Home

Crews from Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services were called to a house fire near 10 Street and 11 Ave South on October 13th. Smoke and flames engulfed the front of the house and quickly spread to the garage. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and no injuries were reported. Unfortunately, a pet did die from smoke inhalation. The fire is still under investigation and damage is estimated to be around $350,000.
Trushar Patel Recognized With Alberta Newcomer Award

A total of 31 Albertans are being honoured for their contributions to our province. The Canadians who were born outside of the country and immigrated to Alberta were honoured with the Alberta Newcomer Recognition Awards. That includes Trushar Patel, who is an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge. He won for his work in developing targeted therapies for a range of viral infections including Hepatitis B and COVID-19.
