Broadband Breakfast is a news organization located in Washington that has been around for ten years. It focuses on creating a community centered on topics like Internet Infrastructure, the effects of Broadband, Smart Cities, and Rural Telecom. We offer unbiased news and expert insights on these areas. Our name comes from the Broadband Breakfast Club we started in 2008, and we are currently working on reviving a series of broadband-related events, set to relaunch in September 2019.

WASHINGTON, June 26, 2025 – T-Mobile’s satellite service with Starlink is officially launching July 23, the company said at a livestreamed event Monday. It will include messaging at launch and a broadband data-based service starting in October. T-Mobile said in a release that sometime later this year, its satellite service would provide 911 texting for free to anyone with a compatible device, which the company said was most smartphones made within the last four years.

WASHINGTON, June 26, 2025 – A federal judge dismissed last week a lawsuit from AT&T investors who alleged the company misled them about risks related to lead cables. The court gave the investors 30 days to file an amended complaint. Chief Judge David C. Godbey of the Northern District of Texas said some statements made by the company were potentially false and therefore actionable, but the investors hadn’t made a strong enough showing that AT&T executives were being deceptive or reckless.

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2025 – Utilities and rural carriers are at odds on whether the Federal Communications Commission should allow a spectrum transfer between T-Mobile and Grain Management. T-Mobile and Grain announced in March a deal in which Grain would buy about 15 megahertz of spectrum in the carrier’s 800 MegaHertz (MHz) band in exchange for an undisclosed sum of cash and the firm’s holdings in the 600 MHz band.

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2025 – T-Mobile’s $4.3 billion purchase of UScellular’s wireless assets has cleared a review by federal law enforcement agencies. The companies are targeting a “mid-2025” close date. Back in November the Federal Communications Commission, which will need to approve the deal, referred the transaction to a White House committee that advises the agency on foreign ownership issues. T-Mobile is owned by German firm Deutsche Telekom.

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2025 – More than 40 lawmakers urged Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick Wednesday to reverse the agency’s new rules for its $42.45 billion broadband expansion program. “We fear this opportunity would be squandered by the restructuring notice and its changes to coverage, quality, and affordability,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to Lutnick.
