Center Theatre Group is a prominent arts and cultural organization in the nation and stands out as Los Angeles’ top not-for-profit theatre company. Under the guidance of Managing Director/CEO Meghan Pressman and Producing Director Douglas C. Baker, along with the support of four Associate Artistic Directors—Lindsay Allbaugh, Tyrone Davis, Neel Keller, and Kelley Kirkpatrick—they curate engaging seasons at several venues. These include the 736-seat Mark Taper Forum and the larger Ahmanson Theatre, which accommodates between 1,600 and 2,100 seats, both located at The Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles, as well as the 317-seat Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City.

    A Strange Loop is a musical twenty years in the making. Michael R. Jackson, now 43, began writing the show when he was around the same age as the 25-year-old protagonist, Usher, a Black gay man who is trying to write a musical about a Black gay man who is trying to write a musical about a Black gay man. ‘[A Strange Loop] compresses twenty years of thought into a character who is experiencing these things in a discreet amount of time,” he said.
