Channel One stands out as the top name in Russian television, cherished by viewers around the globe for its engaging content. Originally known as Russian Public Television until 2002, it started its broadcasts in April 1995. Channel One took over from the state television and radio company Ostankino, which was the primary broadcaster during the USSR era and reached nearly the entire Russian population, covering 99.8%.
