NTV (Russia)

NTV (in Cyrillic: НТВ) is a Russian television channel that broadcasts for free and was established as part of Vladimir Gusinsky's Media-Most company. Since April 14, 2001, the channel has been under the ownership of Gazprom Media. According to Igor Malashenko, who helped create the name and co-founded the network, NTV does not have an official meaning. However, during the 1990s, people informally interpreted the acronym to stand for terms like "New" (Novoye), "Independent" (Nezavisimoye), "Non-governmental" (Negosudarstvenoye), and "Our" (Nashe).
