The Communiqué has been at the forefront of my life since August 2021, my first week at Chatham University. And now, 120 pitch meetings, 62 bylines, 48 print editions, 24 multi-award-winning Quadcast episodes, several national media awards and an opossum reading our newspaper tattooed on my arm later, my time at Chatham and with the Communiqué has finally come to a close after I graduate at the end of April. I became editor-in-chief at the start of my sophomore year.

Chatham University’s hockey teams may finally be able to call the Shadyside ice rink, the Hunt Armory, home for good. Following a unanimous approval vote from the Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) on April 10, Chatham University has been approved for a 10-year lease with the option to buy the property for $2 million. “It’s great news,” Women’s Ice Hockey Coach Michael O’Grady said.

From captaining the women’s hockey team in the morning to stopping lacrosse shots at night, Samantha Barrett’s ‘25 time at Chatham University continues to keep her busy. Barrett is a two-sport athlete playing for the women’s hockey and lacrosse teams, and while her role on the ice and field differs for each team, her leadership is her most impactful asset. Barrett played in more than 100 games for the women’s hockey team and was named the captain for her senior year.

March 18, 2025 Early in March, Zack Conner ‘25 and Evan Mitchell ‘25 took off their Chatham University hockey jerseys for the final time. The tears and sadness following the conclusion of their college hockey careers quickly became joy as they both fulfilled their childhood dreams of becoming professional hockey players.

February 27, 2025 The men’s basketball team is looking to do something no other Chatham University team has before: win its third Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) championship. In its ninth season, the men’s basketball team already has a rich history. The Cougars have won two titles since 2019, and for the first time in program history, they are the top-ranked team in the playoffs. “We’re very pleased with how the regular season went,” head coach David Richards said.
