I am an economist and political scientist focused on researching issues like conflict, crime, and poverty. My work primarily takes place in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and more recently, Chicago. Currently, I hold the position of Ramalee E. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies at The University of Chicago, where I am part of the Harris Public Policy and The Pearson Institute. Additionally, I am affiliated with the Political Science Department and serve as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
