École Charleswood School is home to a new large mural. With guidance from mural artist Fred Thomas, Grade 7 and 8 students helped design and paint the new artwork, The Passage. The art piece was inspired by things the students learned after trips to Tom Chester Park, Assiniboine Forest, Oak Hammock Marsh and Brokenhead Wetland. The seven sacred teachings can be found within the painting as well as the four traditional medicines, with every inch of the mural created with intention and detail.
Pedestrians to return to Portage & Main after 46 years this Friday

The iconic Portage & Main intersection in downtown Winnipeg is set to open up to pedestrians on Friday. The busy roadway has been closed to pedestrians since 1979. In March 2024, Mayor Scott Gillingham recommended the intersection be reopened, as the costs to repair the Portage and Main underground began to soar. Construction to take down the barricades at Portage and Main began in October 2024, with several lane closures throughout the following months.

An inmate from Stony Mountain Institution is on th loose according to the Correctional Service of Canada. 41-year-old Jason David Vanwyck was discovered missing early Monday morning. The Correctional Service of Canada immdiately contacted Stonewall RCMP and a warrant for the offender’s arrest has been issued. Vanwyck is described as 6′0″, 241 lbs with a fair complexion, green eyes and brown hair.

On March 1, 2023, Kirk Cadman, a student at Dakota Collegiate and Lavallee School, was tragically killed in a car accident. Man in custody after violent crime spree in St. Boniface

A 38-year-old man is in custody following a series of violent incidents in the St. Boniface area. It all started around 6 p.m. in the 100 block of Dupont Street, where the suspect broke into a vehicle and stole property. Shortly after, a witness spotted the same man breaking into another vehicle in the 200 block of Enfield Crescent. The witness attempted to intervene, but the suspect reacted, picked up a brick, threatened to kill him, before throwing the brick and running away.
