Council to take back youth charity’s services after closure

A south London youth charity has announced that its services will return to council control after its closure. Youth First, which provided free after-school and holiday provision at playgrounds and youth clubs for children and young people across Lewisham borough, closed on 31 March. The organisation had initially been part of Lewisham council’s youth services before registering as a separate charity in 2021.
Nottingham charity closes after ‘clinging on for years’

A Nottingham-based community support charity has announced its closure amid financial struggles after “clinging on for years”. The Bridges Community Trust, which has provided services including food banks and employment support in the Meadows neighbourhood of Nottingham since 1996, is set to close in May. This Friday, the charity will hold an extraordinary general meeting to vote on its dissolution, although it has already begun transferring its assets to local charities.
Disability charity puts 124 roles at risk of redundancy amid ‘increased financial pressures’

The charity is understood to have made the decision in the hope of saving £1.8m in 2025/26. Scope currently employs 842 people. It confirmed that it would be entering into a consultation period with staff prior to making the redundancies.

RNIB makes over 15% of staff redundant as part of restructure

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has made more than 15% of its staff redundant as part of an “organisation-wide” restructure. RNIB made 197 of its 1,248 employees redundant, it confirmed to Civil Society this week, with cuts understood to have been made across the charity. The news comes shortly after the RNIB concluded a 45-day consultation with staff on proposals that had initially placed almost 300 at risk of redundancy.
National cycling charity unveils new branding

National charity Cycling UK has unveiled an £88,000 rebrand, including a new logo, tagline and colour palette. Cycling UK said the rebrands forms part of its five-year strategy, which began last year, and was developed in consultation with the charity’s trustees, staff and its almost 70,000 members. The charity said its new tagline – “ride with us” – was intended to invite everyone “to be part of the cycling movement”.
Welsh Government asks charities for views on volunteering ‘vision statement’

Charities have been asked to share their views on a “vision statement” for volunteering from the Welsh Government and membership body Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WVCA). Organisations and individuals have until 30 May to respond to a consultation on the statement, which forms part of a broader project between the Welsh Government and WCVA to co-design a new approach to volunteering in the country.

The reorganisation of its leadership structurere follows the departure of Sense and Sense International CEO Richard Kramer at beginning of the year, and subsequent appointment of James Watson-O'Neill as Sense CEO in February.
Alumni of youth leadership charity protest ‘deeply concerning’ closure

The alumni of a youth leadership charity have published an open letter protesting against its imminent closure and calling for it to consider a merger instead. RECLAIM, which has been based in Manchester for over a decade and runs youth leadership workshops for working-class young people in the city, announced its closure earlier this week. However, shortly before the charity’s announcement, a group of alumni from RECLAIM’s programmes published the letter urging it to consider other options.
