Safer London has appointed Rosemary Watt-Wyness as its next chief executive following an eight-month stint as the charity’s interim chief operating officer. She succeeds Sherry Peck, who stepped down as chief executive of the youth violence prevention charity last summer after six years in the role. Watt-Wyness, who will take up the top job next week, previously spent eight years as the chief executive of London Youth.

In England, more than 150,000 children are homeless in temporary accommodation – often damp, cramped and unsafe conditions. The furniture retailer Ikea and the housing and homelessness charity Shelter have joined forces to call for the government to commit to building 90,000 social rent homes a year for 10 years, to tackle the housing emergency and help families out of temporary accommodation.
