Province to add more funds to skills training

Another component of next week’s budget is being revealed. The Ford government intends to increase a training fund to $2.5 million over the next three years. The Skills Development Fund allows organizations to create or expand training programs or facilities. Making the announcement during a skills competition in Toronto, Premier Doug Ford says the $1 billion boost to the fund will help connect more workers to acquire skills for in-demand jobs.

This past Monday eligible Canadian voters went to the polls during the Federal Election. Meanwhile more than 900,000 students from 5900 Canadian schools cast a mock ballot as a part of the Student Vote Canada program. Dryden High School was one of the schools that participated. As Ms. Palermo notes below her DHS Grade 12 Law and Grade 10 Civics classes were involved in the process.

OPP arrest dangerous driver near Oxdrift

Dryden OPP have arrested one person after receiving reports of a commercial motor vehicle driving dangerously. OPP said officers were conducting patrols on Highway 17 near Oxdrift when they were alerted by a concerned motorist. The motorist reported that a vehicle was passing dangerously on a double solid line, forcing other vehicles onto the shoulder. Police located the vehicle and arrested a 20-year-old from Winnipeg for dangerous operation.

Spotted on Sandy Beach Road in Dryden. Picture taken and sent to me by an upset Dryden resident and concerned Canadian citizen. If the sign has been erected as a joke……is it really a good time for that? In light of the U.S. – Canada Trade War initiated by United States President Donald Trump and his continuing talk of making Canada the 51st State…….I have to say that personally it’s not. But maybe that’s just me. If the sign was put in place for another reason….I’d like to hear the reason.
